Dadareah OHWOW Gallery, Miami, FL 2010
The OHWOW gallery and artists Devin Flynn and Jim Drain presented Dadarhea, a freeform video workshop with a group of guest artsits who pride themselves on confounding their audiences, allowing them to employ animation, live-action video (on location with a greenscreen), musical performance, and any and all improvised and questionable behavior. Dadarea-ists included: Devin Flynn, Jim Drain, Naomi Fisher, Ara Peterson, Joe Grillo, Takeshi Murata, Francine Spiegel, Melissa Brown, Marie Lorenz, Todd James, Brian Belott, Jessie Gold, Michael Williams, Erin Krause, Alvara Ilizarbe, Jen Stark, FriendsWithYou, Billy Grant, Laura Grant, Alison Kuo, and Erin Fensler, among others.
FriendsWithYou combined forces with artists Jen Stark and Alvardo Ilizarbe to create ritual performances called “OHWOWIES”, “The Magical Goat” and “Triplet”. In this performance, the artists took on the role of sculptures that come alive together by playing bells, shooting off fireworks, and blowing feathers and confetti from their costumes to bless everyone in attendance. As the trio came to life, so did a larger-than-life papier-mâché goat. As the sound died down, the sculptures returned to their motionless state. This continued for the duration of the evening. The performance brought Dadarhea to life in a way that allowed the audience to physically experience the project, bringing a unique dimension to the show.
