FriendsWithYou are pleased to announce The BAND, an interactive performance-based installation featuring five, large-scale autonomous robots programmed to engage with visitors through healing frequencies, sound, and dance—a never-before-seen utilization of technology by FriendsWithYou. Building on the artists’ longtime practice to foster compassion and optimism, the exhibition aims to create a joyful and communal experience that encourages humanity to embrace the relationship with each other and with technology. The exhibition will be on view at Cleveland Public Library beginning October 26, 2024.
Each member of The BAND—which stands for Biodigital Autonomous Neuro Dancers—has come to Earth from another dimension to spread healing vibration through the universal language of movement. With individual personalities and names rooted in numerology and frequencies (ROC, ETZ, LIX, PMJ, and FUR), these robots perform an enchanting “ballet of joy” as they mingle with visitors. FriendsWithYou produced a personalized choreography alongside a symphony of sounds by long-time collaborator and musical genius Norman Bambi, inviting viewers to interact with and become part of the art. The BAND’s capabilities to form human-like connections are undeniable: as audiences join the dance through AI-driven commands, they experience a dynamic connection to the digital world and humanity’s future alongside evolving technology, catalyzing a deeper compassion for human/digital relationships. Through The BAND, Samuel and Arturo strive to create meaningful, awe-inspiring adventures that offer a moment of modern magic as visitors witness and participate with these animated, self-aware entities in motion.
The BAND will be on view for one year in the Main Library in Brett Hall at the Cleveland Public Library. The exhibition is produced in collaboration with LAND Studio and powered by the amazing engineers and robotic geniuses at Deeplocal.
